On October 20-22, the 2023 academic annual meeting of the State Key Laboratory of Elemento-Organic Chemistry (Nankai University) (Key Laboratory) and the fourth meeting of the eighth academic committee were held in Crowne Plaza Hotel, Tianjin.

More than 300 representatives from the Department of Science and Technology Research, Development Committee Office, Department of Laboratory Equipment, Double First-Class Office of Nankai University and Key Laboratories attended the meeting.
Jun Chen delivered a speech on behalf of Nankai University at the opening ceremony, welcoming the attending experts and guests and expressing gratitude to the experts who have cared about and supported the development of Nankai University for a long time. He briefly introduced the important scientific research achievements achieved by Key Laboratories in recent years and pointed out that the current national efforts to promote the restructuring of the National Laboratories system are both opportunities and challenges for Key Laboratories. He looked forward to more guidance and support from experts for the development of Key Laboratories and hoped that teachers and students would devote themselves to scientific research work with a spirit of striving and making new contributions to the country's achievement of high-level scientific and technological with self-reliance.
Then, Prof. Chunming Cui, director of the Key Laboratories, gave a work report at the opening ceremony, introducing the development and construction of Key Laboratories in the past year from the aspects of overall scientific research situation, representative scientific research achievements, talent and team building and open communication. Subsequently, Prof. Zhaomin Hou from the Japanese Institute of Physics and Chemistry, Prof. Ritter from the Max Planck Institute in Germany and Academician Benzhong Tang from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) gave special invited speeches. Prof. Xiaochen Wang and Researcher Dongbing Zhao, fixed researchers from Key Laboratories gave invited speeches. On the morning of October 22nd, Academician Zhenfeng Xi presided over the fourth meeting of the 8th Academic Committee and all academic members and relevant leaders of the Science and Department of Technology Research of Nankai University attended the meeting. The meeting reviewed the open projects of Key Laboratory in 2023 and focused on discussing issues related to the restructuring and future development of Key Laboratory. Director Cui expressed sincere gratitude to the attending experts on behalf of the Key Laboratory. He pointed that the valuable opinions and suggestions put forward by the experts would provide important guidance for the future development of the Key Laboratory. The laboratory will carefully review and summarize and strive to complete the restructuring work successfully.
This meeting is also a branch of the "2023 International Industry-University Research and Application Cooperation Conference - International Symposium on Elemento- Organic Catalysis and Materials" organized by the School Planning and Construction Development Center of the Ministry of Education and the Tianjin Municipal Education Commission and presented by Nankai University with the guidance and support of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and the Tianjin Municipal People's Government. The conference conducted thorough discussions on topics such as elemento-organic catalysis and organic functional molecules with the aim of showcasing cutting-edge research trends in related fields to domestic and foreign peers, building an international exchange platform, enhancing communication and cooperation between domestic and foreign scholars, promoting deep integration of industry, academia and research to further promote the transformation and implementation of more research results.
