Prof. Shixian Yang is a pioneering chemist and educationalist of China,
a pacesetter in China’s pesticide chemistry and a primary founder of the organic
chemistry discipline of Nankai University. He was also once the president of
Nankai University. January 8th, 2017 is the 120th anniversary of the birth of Prof. Yang. In memory of Prof. Yang, the school of chemistry
organized a series of academic activities for commemorating the 120th anniversary of the birth of Shixian Yang on behalf of the request of Nankai
University.
On December 5th, “Symposium on Frontiers of Elemento-organic
Chemistry for Commemorating the 120th Anniversary of the Birth of Shixian Yang”
took place in the Academic Lecture Hall of the Synthesis Building of the SKLEOC.
Jointly sponsored by 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center and the State Key
Laboratory of Elemento-organic Chemistry, this symposium invited 10 domestic
speakers. Professor Chunming Cui, director of the SKLEOC, hosted and addressed
the opening ceremony. Kai Qu, secretary of party committee of the school of chemistry,
and Jun Chen, associate dean of the school of chemistry, extended their welcome
and gratitude to all the speakers for their participation.
The opening ceremony was followed by a string of academic reports. Prof.
Xinping Wang of Nanjing University, Prof. Yaofeng Chen of Shanghai Institute of
Organic Chemistry CAS, Prof. Lizhu Wu of Technical Institute of Physics and
Chemistry CAS, Prof. Wenjing Xiao of Central China Normal University, Prof. Huanfeng
Jiang of South China University of Technology, Prof. Jinsong You of Sichuan
University, Prof. Yonggui Zhou of Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics CAS,
Prof. Wei Wang of Lanzhou University, Prof. Xingang Zhang of Shanghai Institute
of Organic Chemistry CAS, and Prof. Jun’an Ma of Tianjin University were
invited to speak at the symposium.
This symposium served as a platform for the discussion of frontiers in elemento-organic
chemistry. The symposium successfully concluded amid the loud applause of
attendees.
