On September 25th 2018, Prof. Guy Lloyd-Jones from the University of Edinburgh paid visit to the
SKLEOC. He was invited to give lecture entitled “A Journeyin situfrom Reactants to (side)Products”.
Before the lecture, Prof.
Qilin Zhou, on behalf of the SKLEOC, presented Prof. Lloyd-Jones the “Nankai
University Lectureship on Organic Chemistry” certificate. During the speech,
Prof. Lloyd-Jones gave an in depth account on gold-catalyzed couplings of
aromatic silanes and related mechanistic studies using stopped-flow NMR/IR techniques.
The rigorous attitude of Prof. Lloyd-Jones towards sciences had a deep impact
on the audience. After the talk, there was further discussion concerning the
details of the mechanisms discussed.
Prof. Guy Lloyd Jones received his Ph.D. in 1992
from Oxford University under the supervision of Prof. John M. Brown. The main
research interest of Prof. Llyod-Jone is the development of synthetic
methodologies. He is especially an expertise in the studies of organic reaction
mechanisms. His profound research has been reckoned by name awards, such as the
Hikcinbottom Fellowship of the RSC (2000), Corday Morgan Medal and Prize
(2003), Organic Reaction Mechanisms Prize (2008), Physical Organic Chemistry
Prize (2013), Tilden Prize (2014) and Pedler Award (2018).
