On June 4th 2018, Prof, Andrei Yudin from the University of Toronto paid visit to the SKLEOC. Apart from academic communications with faculties of the SKLEOC, he gave a lecture entitled “Chemical Synthesis of Bioactive Compounds Using Amphoteric Molecules”.

Before the lecture, Prof. Qilin Zhou delivered Prof. Yudin the “Nankai University Lectureship on Organic Chemistry” certificate on behalf of the SKLEOC. During the lecture, Prof. Yudin thoroughly introduced the chemical synthesis of amphoteric molecules which possess both nucleophilic and electrophilic properties,  the novel reactivities of these molecules and their applications to pharmaceutical syntheses. Prof. Yudin’s excellent speech arouse great interest among the audience. Further discussion went on after the talk on the details of the novel amphoteric molecules.

Prof. Yudin is a Canadian chemist. He is a fellow of Royal Society(Canada), fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry(UK). He is also the Chair of the Board of Organic and Biomolecular Chemistry. Prof. Yudin obtained his Ph.D. in 1996 from the University of Southern California under the supervision of Prof. G. S. K. Prakash and Prof. George Olah. He then conducted his postdoctoral research at the Scripps Research Institute with Prof. K. B. Sharpless from 1996-1998. He is currently a professor of chemistry at the University of Toronto. His primary research interests include boron chemistry and peptide chemistry.  Prof. Yudin’s excellent research has been recognized by many awards, including the Cottrell Scholar Award, the Royal Society of Canada Rutherford Memorial Medal, the Bernard Belleau Award and the Alfred Bader Award.
