Recently, the 20th Beijing-Tianjin Organic Chemistry Salon hosted by the State Key Laboratory of Elemento-organic Chemistry of Nankai University was successfully held in Jixian, Tianjin. More than 90 researchers from Nankai University, Peking University, Tsinghua University and Institute of Chemistry of Chinese Academy of Sciences attended the meeting. The opening ceremony was presided over by Prof. Dongbing Zhao from Nankai University. Pro. Chunming Cui, director of the Key Laboratory, delivered an opening speech and summarized the development of the Salon over the past 20 years.

At the meeting, Prof. Qilin Zhou from Nankai University and Prof. Zhixiang Yu from Peking University gave keynote speeches, providing a thorough and in-depth analysis of the current development status and challenges of asymmetric hydrogenation and cyclization reactions. Prof. Yongxiang Chen from Tsinghua University gave a cutting-edge report on the hot topic of artificial enzyme catalysis, summarizing the current progress and providing future prospects based on existing problems. Profe. Shuo Tong from Tsinghua University, Prof. Xiaochen Wang from Nankai University, Prof. Qiqiang Wang from Institute of Chemistry of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Prof. Suwei Dong from Peking University gave reports summarized the development process of their research groups and plans at key development nodes. Newly introduced talents from various institutes, including Assistant Prof. Qinghui Guo from Tsinghua University, Prof. Fei Wang from Nankai University, Assistant Prof. Yang Jiao from Peking University, Prof. Qingyuan Meng from Institute of Chemistry of Chinese Academy of Sciences, as well as Prof. Hao Wei from Peking University, Prof. Chan Cao, Jingxiang Yang, Lijun Xiao and Huahua Sun from Nankai University gave presentations on their overall ideas and expected research plans for their future work and gained valuable suggestions and guidance from everyone. During the free discussion session, participants actively spoke about the conference mode, content, and scale of the Beijing-Tianjin Salon and gave their suggestions for a better conference.

The Beijing-Tianjin Organic Chemistry Salon was jointly initiated by Academician Qilin Zhou, Academician Zhenfeng Xi and Academician Meixiang Wang in 2003. The aim of the Salon is to discuss hot topics in the field of organic chemistry and provide discussions and suggestions for young talents to help them quickly identify their research direction. The Salon advocates and encourages communication methods with an atmosphere of "academic criticism" and builds a platform for researchers to speak freely and learn from each other. The Beijing-Tianjin Organic Chemistry Salon has been held for 20 times and will be hosted by Peking University next year.
