The 2nd meeting of the 6th academic committee & academic symposium of the State Key Laboratory of Elemento-organic Chemistry took place in Nankai University from October 21st-23rd, 2011. This conference consisted of over 400 attendants, including special guests Prof. Jinpei Cheng, vice chairman of the Education, Science, Culture and Health Committee of the National People's Congress; Wenping Liang, deputy director of the Department of Chemical Sciences of National Natural Science Foundation of China; Canping Du, director of the Second Office of the Department of Chemical Sciences of National Natural Science Foundation of China; Professor Qiyu Zheng of the Second Office of the Department of Chemical Sciences of National Natural Science Foundation of China, 15 members of the SKLEOC academic committee, full-time faculties and guest research fellows of the SKLEOC, as well as other faculty members and students. On behalf of Nankai University, Naijia Guan, vice president of Nankai University gave the opening remarks and extended her gratitude to all governors and members of the SKLEOC Academic Committee for their participation in the conference. Deputy Director Wenping Liang delivered closing remarks and expressed congratulations on the success of this meeting. Prof. Lihe Zhang, director of the SKLEOC academic committee, spoke at the meeting to encouraged young scholars to conduct creative scientific research.
Prof. Qilin Zhou, director of the SKLEOC, gave an account of the institute’s research accomplishments in the previous year. As specially invited speakers for the meeting, Prof. Bill Jones of University of Rochester gave a lecture entitled “factors controlling rhodium-carbon bond Strengths”, Prof. Chuan He from University of Chicago delivered a speech named “reversible chemical modifications on nucleic acids control cell Development”, and Prof. Meixiang Wang of Tsinghua University gave a talk termed “supramolecular chemistry of novel functionalized macrocyclic molecules”. In addition invited speakers, several full-time faculty members and guest research fellows of the SKLEOC were also invited to talk about their research achievements.

th academic committee, members of the committee deliberated the SKLEOC open fund application of 2011, and decided to sponsor 22 research topics by voting. This meeting furthermore discussed relevant issues on the further developments of the SKLEOC.
