The 3rd Meeting of the 7th Academic Committee&Academic Symposium of the State Key Laboratory of Elemento-organic Chemistry took place in Binhai New Area of Tianjin during October 21st - 23rd, 2016. Special attendees included members of the academic committee Prof. Jinpei Cheng, Prof. Zhenhe Tong, Prof. Henry N. C. Wong, Prof. Guoqiang Lin, Prof. Zhenfeng Xi, Prof. Xuhong Qian, Prof. Qilin Zhou, Prof. Meixiang Wang, Prof. Yu Liu, Prof. Zhen Xi, Prof. Chunming Cui, Prof. Xiaoqing Zhu, and former executive deputy director of the Department of Chemical Sciences of National Natural Science Foundation of China Wenping Liang.
On the evening of October 21st, President of Nankai University Ke Gong had a discussion with members of the academic committee. On behalf of Nankai University, President Gong extended his welcome to all attendees and gave his gratitude for their dedications to Nankai University and the SKLEOC. President Gong pointed out that the SKLEOC has made remarkable achievements in scientific research and has grown into an important base for the development China’s organic chemistry and pesticide science. President Gong hoped that the academic committee would keep on supporting the SKLEOC’s innovative research and talent cultivation. President Gong afterwards introduced Nankai University’s series of activities for commemorating the 120th birth anniversary of Prof. Shixian Yang, former president of Nankai University.
On October 22nd, the SKLEOC held its annual academic symposium. This conference was hosted by Prof. Guangxin Liang, deputy director of SKLEOC. More than 500 members were present, including members of SKLEOC academic committee, governors of the Fund Committee, governors of the Office of Science and Technology of Nankai University, dean of the School of Chemistry, guest research fellows of the SKLEOC, and full-time research fellows and students of the institute. Firstly, Prof. Chunming Cui, director of SKLEOC, reported the SKLEOC’s scientific establishments in the previous year. Secondly, Prof. Gregory C. Fu of Caltech, Prof. Deqing Zhang of the Institute of Chemistry CAS, and Prof. Jianmin Yue of the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica made academic talks as specially invited speakers. In addition to these invited speakers, Prof. Xinjun Luan from Northwest University and Professor Jun’an Ma of Tianjin University introduced their research as representatives of guest research fellows of the SKLEOC. Prof. Gong Chen and Prof. You Huang were also invited to illustrate their science as representatives of full-time research fellows of the SKLEOC.
To better stimulate the students’ enthusiasm in attending the annual academic symposium, and to boost the communication between students and attending professors, the SKLEOC Annual Conference this year additionally set a poster presentation section. 15 out of 62 posters would be selected to present excellence awards. The award was sponsored by MIKROUNA (China) Co., Ltd. Mr. Shengsi Xu, sales director of the company, along with academic committee members Prof. Jinpei Cheng, Prof. Guoqiang Lin, director of the SKLEOC Prof. Chunming Cui, and director of the Fund Committee Wenping Liang are the judges for the award.

On the morning of October 23rd, the 3rd meeting of the 7th academic committee of the SKLEOC was convened. This meeting was hosted by Prof. Jinpei Cheng, director of the Academic Committee and attended by Prof. Qilin Zhou, deputy director of the Academic Committee, and members of the academic committee namely Prof. Zhenhe Tong, Prof. Henry N. C. Wong, Prof. Guoqiang Lin, Prof. Zhenfeng Xi, Prof. Xuhong Qian, Prof. Meixiang Wang, Prof. Yu Liu, Prof. Zhen Xi, Prof. Chunming Cui, Prof. Xiaoqing Zhu. Prof. Wenping Liang, former executive deputy director of the Department of Chemical Sciences of National Natural Science Foundation of China also took part in the conference. This meeting focused majorly on the deliberation of the SKLEOC annual open fund application of 2016. Attending professors also shared opinions on the future development of the institute.
