On February 18
th, 2017, SKLEOC greeted its first Beijing-Tianjin Organic Chemistry Postgraduate Academic Symposium. This symposium evolved from the Postgraduates Academic Symposium that was jointly sponsored by Peking University and Beijing Institute of Chemistry. Prior to this symposium, Peking University-Beijing Institute of Chemistry has held 10 annual postgraduate academic symposiums.

This year, Tsinghua University and Nankai University were honored to join this symposium. Organized by the State Key Laboratory of Elemento-organic Chemistry (SKLEOC), the first Beijing-Tianjin Organic Chemistry Postgraduates Academic Symposium was convened in the lecture hall of Building A of Tianjin-Nankai University Union Tower. The symposium had more than 300 attendants,, including Prof. Jinpei Cheng, Prof. Qilin Zhou, Prof. Zhenfeng Xi, as well as postgraduates and faculty members from the Organic Chemistry Research Institute of College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering of Peking University, Department of Chemistry of Tsinghua University, Key Laboratory of Molecular Recognition and Function, School of the Institute of Chemistry CAS and the State Key Laboratory of Elemento-organic Chemistry (Nankai University).

This symposium included both oral presentations and poster presentations. All oral presenters and sessions hosts were graduate students.

16 students: Zhikun Zhang, Jun Yang, Jiangling Shi, and Wangyang Ma from Peking University; Puguang Chen, Qian Zhang, Haoyi Du, and Li Zhang from Tsinghua University; Songlei Li, Gengwu Zhang, Teng Jia, and Qi Yang from Beijing Institute of Chemistry; Maolin Li, Helve Sun, Tianjiao Qiao, and Peixing Chen from Nankai University, delivered academic reports for this symposium. Attending faculty members put forward their valuable suggestions for the students’ scientific research. Poster presentation session featured 56 posters. The students displayed rich chemical achievements and exchanged ideas extensively with other attendees. The symposium served as a favorable platform for the academic exchange and training of postgraduates in Beijing and Tianjin.

This symposium selected eight oral presentation awards and sixteen poster awards. Not only did the prize winners receive prize money and molecular models, but also won a certificate of merit autographed by Prof. Qilin Zhou, Prof. Zhenfeng Xi, Prof. Qinghua Fan, and Prof. Chao Chen representing each of their respective institutes.

At the end of the symposium, Prof. Qinghua Fan, Prof. Chao Chen, Prof. Zhenfeng Xi, and Prof. Qilin Zhou successively made concluding remarks on this symposium.  In addition to giving full recognition to this symposium’s significance in promoting academic exchange of postgraduates in Beijing and Tianjin and improving the comprehensive quality of postgraduates, the four professors further encouraged students to think further, learn from one another, and exchange ideas actively, so as to accomplishmore academic achievements.
