On June 25 to 28, the 8th International Conference on Hypervalent Iodine Chemistry (ICHIC-8) was held at Nankai University. The conference was hosted by the State Key Laboratory of Elemento-Organic Chemistry, Nankai University, with co-organization from the College of Chemistry, Nankai University, and the Frontiers Science Center for New Organic Matter.

The conference focused on the latest research breakthroughs and frontier applications in hypervalent iodine chemistry, attracting active participation from leading experts, scholars, and students across China, the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Japan, Canada, Sweden, Switzerland, Australia, Spain, and beyond. 27 worldwide experts were invited to give wonderful presentations at the conference, including 16 keynote lectures and 11 oral presentations, supplemented by 5 graduate student talks. Additionally, a poster session showcased over 30 research posters presented by early-career scientists and graduate students, with 10 outstanding posters receiving awards—including the ACS Publications Award, Thieme Award, and ICHIC-SIS Award.

The opening ceremony of the conference was held on the morning of June 26. Prof. Gong Chen from Nankai University, Chair of the Conference, presided over the ceremony.

Prof. Chunming Cui, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Elemento-Organic Chemistry at Nankai University, extended a warm welcome to participants. He emphasized that hypervalent iodine chemistry constitutes a vital component of elemento-organic chemistry, playing an increasingly significant role across diverse fields including organic synthesis and materials science. Prof. Cui expressed his hope that this conference would serve as an effective platform to enhance academic exchange and foster international collaboration in hypervalent iodine chemistry research.

Prof. Chi Zhang, Nankai University, and the Chair of the Conference, emphasized in his address that the International Conference on Hypervalent Iodine Chemistry (ICHIC) has become the premier global platform for academic exchange in this field. He noted that this conference gathered renowned experts and scholars from domestic and international communities, providing an invaluable platform for for researchers in hypervalent iodine chemistry to present their work and exchange ideas.

Speaking as the conference sponsor's representative, Mr. Lei Zhang, Chairman of Shantou ShenTai New Material Technology Development Co., Ltd., expressed his sincere congratulations on the successful commencement of the event and conveyed his wishes for its productive outcomes.

During the conference, scholars from China and abroad engaged in in-depth discussions and extensive exchanges centering on key topics including "Synthesis of Novel Hypervalent Iodine Reagents," "Applications of Hypervalent Iodine Reagents in Organic Synthesis," "Mechanistic Studies," "Applications of Hypervalent Iodine Reagents in Materials Science," "Theoretical and Spectroscopic Investigations," and "Industrial Applications of Hypervalent Iodine Reagents." The lively interactions and insightful presentations fully demonstrated the field’s vibrant research activity and promising development potential.
