On December 26, 2024, Academician Fengling Qing from Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences was invited to Nankai Organic Chemistry Lecture by State Key Laboratory of Elemento-organic Chemistry, and gave a wonderful lecture titled “Trifluoromethylation and Pentafluorosulfurylation Reactions” in the Shixian Building. The meeting was hosted by Prof. Qian Peng of the Key Laboratory, and nearly 150 people from the Key Laboratory and the School of Chemistry attended the academic exchange.

Prof. Chunming Cui, director of the Key Laboratory, presented the certificate of “Nankai Organic Chemistry Lecture” to Academician Qing at the begining. Starting from the wide application of fluorine-containing organic compounds in medicine and biomedicine, academician Qing explained the importance of introducing fluorine atoms and fluoroalkyl groups into organic molecules, and showed new reactions and reagents for fluoroalkylation of his group in recent years. The audience was greatly benefited from the detailed explanation. After the speech, the teachers and students present actively communicated and interacted with academician Qing.

Academician Fengling Qing, a researcher of Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) from 1997 to present, and director of Key Laboratory of Advanced Fluorine and Nitrogen Materials (CAS) from June 2023 to present. He is a professor at Donghua University from 2000 to 2022, and worked as vice-president of Donghua University from 2016 to 2022, and was elected as Academician of CAS in 2023. His research interests include organic fluorine chemistry and organic fluorine materials. He was honored the Huang Weiquan Fluorine Chemistry Award of the Chinese Chemical Society in 2014 and the Outstanding Scientific and Technological Achievement Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2023. He was awarded the second prize of National Natural Science Award in 2019, the first prize of Army Science and Technology Progress in 2019, and the first prize of Shanghai Natural Science in 2017 as the first complete author.
