On March 29, 2021, at the invitation of Professor Gong Chen, Professor Yandong Zhang of Xiamen University visited the State Key Laboratory of Elemental-Organic chemistry. After exchanging and interacting with the teachers and students of the Key Laboratory, Professor Zhang made an academic report entitled "Synthesis of Natural Products Promoted by Selective Hydrocarbon Functionalization" in the academic lecture hall of ShiXian Buiding at 4 p.m.
In the academic report, the reporter focused on the natural terpenoid products and a small amount of alkaloids with outstanding biological activity and novel and complex structure. Based on the scientific problem of "selective hydrocarbon functionalization of complex molecular system", the natural products molecular were synthesized efficiently through the development of new hydrocarbon functionalization methods, active design of molecular micro conformation and fine stereoelectronic effect of molecular skeleton, which also can promote the discovery of new drugs. There was a strong academic atmosphere in the report. After the report, the teachers and students present and Professor Zhang had an deeply discussion on the details of the research and the progress of scientific research.
Professor Yandong Zhang graduated from Beijing University of technology in 1998 with a Bachelor's degree and Peking University with a Doctor's degree in 2008. During this period, he was engaged in the total synthesis of Schisandra chinensis triterpenoids. From July 2008 to the end of 2010, he began with postdoctoral research in Columbia University. In January 2011, he joined Xiamen University as associate professor, independent project leader, doctoral supervisor, and was promoted to Professor in August 2017. He has won the Roche Innovative Chemistry Award, New Century Talent Award of Fujian Universities, XiangHua distinguished professor of Xiamen University, Tian ZhaoWu Interdisciplinary Award and etc. His research interests include: total synthesis of physiologically active complex natural products by hydrocarbon functionalizat ion; synthesis of marine natural products and related pharmaceutical chemistry; and chemical biology related to natural products. So far, more than 30 academic papers have been published in JACS., Angew. Chem., J. Med. Chem., Org. Lett. and so on.
