This year is the 120th anniversary of the birth of Prof. Shixian Yang. Prof.
Yang is a pioneering scientist of China, an outstanding representative of
Chinese educationists, a pacesetter in China pesticide chemistry industry, and the
main founder of the chemistry discipline of Nankai University. In his lifetime,
Prof. Yang played a vital role in Nankai University’s talent cultivation,
scientific research, and social services. He ever put forward that “chemistry
must make further contributions to the prosperity of Chinese economy and scientific
developments”, and carved out the path on which scientific research serves as
the major role in national economy. In memory of Prof. Yang, the college of chemistry
organized a series of academic activities for commemorating the 120th anniversary of the birth of Shixian Yang at the commissioned of Nankai
University.
Recently, “series of academic activities for commemorating the 120th anniversary of the birth of Shixian Yang” greeted its first lecture. At the
invitation of the college of chemistry, Prof. Xuhong Qian delivered the opening
lecture for the series of academic activities. As a renowned Chinese pesticide
chemist, Prof. Xuhong Qian was once designated as chief scientist for the China
“973” Program (special pesticide program) twice , and was appointed as a member
of the academic committee of the State Key Laboratory of Elemento-organic
Chemistry. He has deep relationships with the chemistry and pesticide science
of Nankai University. The College of Chemistry is honored to invite Prof. Qian
to make the opening lecture in paying tribute to President Shixian Yang.
Academician Xuhong Qian’s lecture “Think Different” took place in the
Academic Lecture Hall of Synthesis Building of the Institute of
Elemento-organic Chemistry at 18:30 p.m. of November 29th, 2016.
Hosted by Professor Zhen Xi, director of the National Engineering Research
Center for Pesticide, the lecture welcomed more than 150 attendees. From the
perspectives of historical development and human civilization, Prof. Qian emphasized
the importance of diverse thinking with data and cases, and stressed the
importance of “thinking differently” in scientific innovations and world
recognitions. The lecture was thought-provoking, the extensive contents and humorous
comments in the lecture ignited repeated waves of applause in the lecture hall.
The series of academic activities for commemorating the 120th anniversary
of the birth of Shixian Yang had a great opener.
