Source:SKLEOC   Date:2018/07/19

The 5th EOC symposium took place at the lecture hall of Tiannan Building A from July 14th-July 15th. Nearly 200 faculties and students including Prof. Jinpei Cheng, Prof. Qilin Zhou and Prof. Jun Chen participated in this symposium. The theme of this year’s EOC is “Organic Functional Materials and Electronics: Synthesis and Devices”. Prof. Yongsheng Chen of the SKLEOC was appointed chair of the conference. The 5th EOC symposium invited 25 speakers. 33 posters from groups of the SKLEOC were also selected to demonstrate our achievements in this field. Prof. Chunming Cun, director of the SKLEOC, gave opening remarks. He introduced the SKLEOC and the history of the EOC symposium, and showed welcomes to all attendees of the conference.

During the 2-day symposium, Prof. Tobin Marks of Northwestern University, Prof. Timothy Swager of MIT, Prof. Yury Gogotsi of Drexel University, Prof. Qibing Pei of UCLA, Prof. Klaus Müllen of Max Planck Institute, Prof. Dongling Jiang of National Unversity of Singapore, Prof. He Yan of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Prof. Yong Cao of South China University of Technology, Prof. Yongfang Li of the Institute of Chemistry, CAS, Prof. He Tian of East China University of Science and Technology, Prof. Lizhu Wu of the Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, CAS, Prof. Jian Pei of Peking University, and Prof. Jian Xu of the Institute of Chemistry, CAS each gave excellent talks as invited speakers.

12 young scholars from different universities and research institutes in China also had poster presentations and oral lectures during the symposium. The lectures of this year’s EOC covered the cutting-edge science and future developments of organic functional materials and electronic devices from different aspects. The symposium successfully improved cooperation among the field of organic functional materials, while also served as a platform to demonstrate the work of Chinese scholars to foreign scholars.

Apart from academic reports, this year’s symposium specially invited editors of well-acknowledged journals such as Angewandte Chemie, Advanced Materials and Nature Communications for a discussion of “demonstrating scientific achievements in a more scientific way”. During this mini-discussion, the editors talked about the way of writing scientific papers, and answered the commonly encountered problems during contributing articles and publishing articles. The discussion was much welcomed among the students.

As the tradition of the EOC, this year’s symposium also had its poster awards. Three posters out of 33 were selected by the 25 speakers for the award. Prof. Chunming Cui presented the winners Wentao Zhao, Bin Kan and Yamin Zhang the prize certificates signed by all the speakers, the prize money and prize award. The poster session and the awarding session greatly impacted the research enthusiasms of attending students.

After the awarding ceremony, Prof. Yongsheng Chen gave closing remarks as chair of the conference. Prof. Yongsheng thanked all the participants for joining the EOC symposium and constructing an excellent 2-day of academics. The symposium successfully ended in the applause of the attendees.
