On October 19, the 2024 academic annual meeting of the State Key Laboratory of Elemento-Organic Chemistry (Nankai University) (Key Laboratory) was held in Tianjin.

QingshanYang, secretary of the Party committee of Nankai University; Zhendong Tan, deputy director of the Party committee of Bureau of Science and Technology of Tianjin and deputy director of Tiankai Higher Education Innovation Park Management Committee; Academician Zhenhe Tong, Academic Committee member of the Key Laboratory; Academician Zhenfeng Xi, director of Academic Committee of the Key Laboratory; Academician Qilin Zhou, deputy director of Academic Committee; Academic Committee member of the Key Laboratory, Academician Yongqiang Tu, Academician Xuhong Qian, Academician Baoan Song, Academician Yong Tang, Academician Zowei Xie, Academician Meixiang Wang attended the meeting.

Yang welcomed the arrival of Academicians and experts. He pointed that under the guidance and care of Tianjin leaders, the Key Laboratory successfully completed the reorganization declaration and defense of the National Key Laboratory. He hoped that the Key Laboratory would take this reorganization as an opportunity to further strengthen its national mission, integrate advantageous resources inside and outside the university actively, optimize the layout of disciplines constantly, focus on research directions and gather top teams, focus on cultivating top-notch talents with international vision and innovation ability, effectively improve the original innovation of basic research and the ability to tackle key core technologies, strive to produce more landmark achievements that serve the country's major needs, and build the Key Laboratory into a national strategic scientific and technological force in the field of source innovation of organic new substances, so as to make a significant contribution to the realization of the country's high-level scientific and technological self-reliance, the promotion of the construction of a powerful country and the great cause of national rejuvenation.

Director Tan, on behalf of Bureau of Science and Technology of Tianjin, expressed heartfelt thanks to the Academicians and experts who have cared for and supported the scientific and technological innovation work in Tianjin and the development of the Key Laboratory for a long time. He affirmed the contributions made by Nankai University and the Key Laboratory in scientific and technological innovation. He pointed out that Tianjin has made remarkable achievements in thoroughly implementing the spirit of General Secretary Xi's important speech and accelerating the implementation of the innovation driven development strategy. As an important force of scientific and technological innovation in Tianjin, the Key Laboratory has made a series of breakthroughs in construction and development planning, system and mechanism innovation in the process of National Key Laboratory reorganization and application. Bureau of Science and Technology of Tianjin will continue to do a good job in service and support work, providing a strong guarantee for the development of the Key Laboratory.

At the opening ceremony, Academician Qian donated an oil painting named “Friendship between Teachers and Students” to Nankai University. The oil painting depicts a group photo of Academician Hualiang Jiang of Shanghai Institute of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Academician Zhengming Li of Nankai University and Academician Xuhong Qian, which is not only a witness of long-term friendship and cooperation between schools, but also a deep memory of Academician Zhengming Li.

Chunming Cui, director of the Key Laboratory, made an annual work report. He introduced the development and construction of Key Laboratory in the past year from the aspects of the overall situation of scientific research, representative scientific research achievements, talents and team construction, opening and academic exchanges.

Academician Jianmin Yue, Academician Xuhong Qian and Academician Baoan Song, delivered the conference reports. Prof. Gaungfu Yang froml Central China Normal University, Prof. Lidong Cao from The Institute of Plant Protection,Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Prof. Yifeng Wang from University of Science and Technology of China, Prof. Jun Deng and Prof. Xiaoye Wang of the Key Laboratory delivered keynote reports. Prof. Tiezheng Jia from Southern University of Science and Technology, Prof. Dewei Gao from Shanghai University of Science and Technology, Prof. Xueliang Huang from Hunan Normal University, Prof. Wei Li from Zhejiang University, Prof. Yuanming Li from Fuzhou University, Prof. Hao Wang from Southeast University, Prof. Pengfei Li, from Xi'an Jiaotong University, and Prof. Weimin Xuan from Tianjin University introduced their latest research progress in turn.
