The 2nd meeting of the 7th academic committee & academic symposium of the SKLEOC was convened in Tianjin from October 23rd-24th, 2015.
The 2nd meeting of the academic committee, convened on the afternoon of October 23rd, was hosted by Academician Jinpei Cheng, director of the Academic Committee. Members of the academic committee, including Prof. Lihe Zhang, Prof. Zhengming Li, Prof. Zhenhe Tong, Prof. Guoqiang Lin, Prof. Henry N. C. Wong, Prof. Shengming Ma, Prof. Yongqiang Tu, Prof. Xiaoming Feng, Prof. Qilin Zhou, Prof. Zhenfeng Xi, Prof. Meixiang Wang, Prof. Yu Liu, Prof. Xiaoqing Zhu, Prof. Zhen Xi, and Prof. Chunming Cui attended this conference. Prof. Chunming Cui, director of the SKLEOC, gave the opening remark on the account of the SKLEOC’s research performances in 2014-2015, and introduced the preliminary assessment of the open fund of 2015. Prof. Jinpei Cheng then hosted and deliberated the review to the open fund, and singled out the SKLEOC open fund of 2015. Lastly, members of the academic committee gave their respective opinions on the future developments of the institute.

th was packed with the academic symposium. The conference included over 450 attendees, including members of the SKLEOC academic committee, guest research fellows of the SKLEOC, governors of the Office of Science and Technology of Nankai University, full-time faculty members and students of the SKLEOC. The seminar began with the annual work report. Hosted by Prof. Guangxin Liang, deputy director of the SKLEOC, Prof. Chunming Cui, director of the SKLEOC, reported major scientific achievements of the SKLEOC in the previous year from the aspects of talent recruitment, research projects, publications and patent, team building, graduate education, open running, and academic exchange. Prof. Cui then illustrated 9 major research achievements of the SKELOC, namely “chiral spiro phosphine-nitrogen-sulfur ligand and its iridium catalyst”, “novel organo-phosphine catalysis”, “asymmetric catalytic hydrogenation of pyridine containing cyclic imines”, “first total synthesis of schilancitrilactones B and C”, “synthesis of oligothiophene backbone and optimization of devices”, “optical controlled structural transformations of molecular assemblies”, “carboxylation of terminal alkynes with carbon dioxide”, “Synthesis of acrylic acid derivatives by palladium-catalyzed carbonylation of alkynes” “organic compounds bond energy database”.
After Prof. Cui’s introduction, the next session was a series of academic reports. As specially invited speakers, Prof. Sukbok Chang of the Korean KAIST research institute, Prof. Henry N. C. Wong of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Prof. Zhenhe Tong of the Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, and Prof. Xiaojun Peng, director of the State Key Laboratory of Fine Chemicals of Dalian University of Technology, each gave an account of their research work in the frontier fields of C-H amination of hydrocarbons, natural product syntheses, hydrogen production by photocatalytic water splitting, and the control and applications of dye excited state energy release. Apart from the invited speakers, Prof, Ning Jiao of Peking University and Professor Jian Zhou of East China Normal University talked about their respective research in radical nitridation and development of novel silicon reagents as guest research fellow representatives of the SKLEOC, whereas Prof. Yongsheng Chen and Prof. Xuncheng Su discussed their studies on organic PV materials, and paramagnetic nuclear magnetic resonance as representatives of full-time faculties of the SKLEOC.
In 2015, the State Key Laboratory of Elemento-organic Chemistry greeted its 30
th anniversary of founding. Prof. Zhengming Li, one of the founders of the SKLEOC, was invited to speak. Prof. Li reviewed with full emotion the 30 years of development of the institute, and summed up major accomplishments of the SKLEOC during different ages. Prof. Li extended his gratitude to the governors and scientists who made contributions to the construction of the SKLEOC. As a closing remark, he sincerely hoped that the SKLEOC would develop to be a better research institute.
