From October 12th to 13th, 2019, State Key Laboratory of Elemento-organic Chemistry (Nankai University) (hereinafter, the‘Key Laboratory’) 2019 Academic Meeting and the conference of Academic Committee was held at the Home of Tianjin Science and Technology Workers. Academic director of the committee Jinpei Cheng and vice academic director of the committee Qilin Zhou, the members of advisory committee Naizheng Huang, Zhengming Li, Guoqiang Li, Zhenfeng Xi, Xiangmei Wang, Yu Liu, Zhen Xi, Xiaoqing Zhu and Chunming Cui and Vice president of Nankai University Jun Chen attended this meeting. There was an attendance of about 280 at the meeting, including the related principals from scientific research department and representatives of teachers and students.

The opening ceremony of the meeting on the 12th was presided over by Prof. Guangxin Liang, deputy director of the key laboratory. At the opening ceremony, Academician Jun Chen delivered a speech on behalf of Nankai University. He extended a warm welcome to the delegates, thanked the experts and scholars for their consistent support and help to Nankai, and reviewed the construction history and development of the Key Laboratory. It is expected that teachers and students will keep in mind the General Secretary Xi's entrustment and welcome the new century of Nankai with practical actions and tangible achievements.

Prof. Chunming Cui , director of the key laboratory, made a work report of the key laboratory. Prof. Cui reported in detail the key laboratory's work and construction in various aspects in the past year, which was highly recognized by the guests. In the subsequent academic report session, Prof. Takashi Kubo from Osaka University, Japan, Prof. Li Guigen from Texas Tech University, and Prof. Meixiang Wang from Tsinghua University gave special lectures. Prof. Zhuangzhi Shi of Nanjing University, Prof. Shifa Zhu of South China University of Technology, and Prof. Jianhua Xie and Prof. Xiaochen Wang from Nankai made invited reports respectively. A Flash Talk session was added to this academic conference. Guest researchers include Prof. Xihe Bi from Northeast Normal University, Prof. Zhongming Sun from Nankai University, Prof. Daming Du from Beijing Institute of Technology, Prof. Yifeng Wang from University of Science and Technology of China, Prof. Wei Shu from Southern University of Science and Prof. Chanjuan Xi from Tsinghua University briefly introduced their respective work in recent years and expressed gratitude to the key laboratory open fund for funding support for the project. The academic report covers a wide range of frontier developments in traditional organic chemistry and interdisciplinary subjects, and greatly expands the scientific horizons of the teachers and students attending the conference.

In the poster presentation session, a selection committee composed of participating experts selected 16 excellent poster awards from 52 posters. Academician Zhengming Li, Academician Jinpei Cheng, Academician Naizheng Huang, Academician Guoqiang Lin, Academician Qilin Zhou, Academician Zhenfeng Xi, Prof. Meixiang Wang, and Prof. Chunming Cui presented the outstanding poster award with honorary certificates to the winners.

Academician Jinpei Cheng, director of the Academic Committee, delivered a closing speech. He first highly affirmed the achievements of the key laboratory in the past year. and mentioned that 2019 is a very special year, marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the motherland and the 100th anniversary of Nankai University. On 17th January, General Secretary Xi Jinping inspected Nankai University and the Key Laboratory. He hope that the teachers and students of the key laboratory will keep in mind the instructions of General Secretary Xi, keep their feet on the ground, and strive to build the key laboratory into an innovative highland for basic research, a highland for first-class scientists, and at the same time contribute to the "Double First-Class" construction of Nankai University.

On the morning of the 13th, Academician Jinpei Cheng presided over a meeting of the Academic Committee of the Key Laboratory. Academic committee members and Jun Chen, vice president of Nankai University, attended the meeting. He visited the academic committee members on behalf of Nankai University and thanked the experts for their strong support to Nankai University and the key laboratory. The meeting reviewed the opening fund applications during 2019, and put forward valuable opinions and suggestions on the development and construction of key laboratories in scientific research innovation, academic exchanges, opening to the outside and talent training.
