On April 25, Academician Shengcai Lin from Xiamen University attended the Nankai Lectureship on Organic Chemistry invited by the State Key Laboratory of Elemento-organic Chemistry. After interacting with the teachers and students of the Key Laboratory, Academician Lin delivered an academic report entitled "Glucose Sensing Pathway and Drug Development" in the afternoon. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Chuanzheng Zhou of the Key Laboratory, and nearly 150 teachers and students from the Key Laboratory, College of Life Sciences, College of Pharmacy, and other units participated in the academic exchange.

Before the report, Fangyi Cheng, Dean of the College of Chemistry, issued the certificate of "Nankai Lectureship on Organic Chemistry" to Academician Lin on behalf of the Key Laboratory. In the report, Academician Lin first started with the biochemical mechanism of glucose metabolism and systematically described the original discoveries in the field of glucose sensing pathway in the laboratory over the past decade. Then he focused on the new progress and achievements in drug research and development targeting glucose sensing pathway, and finally shared his original views on the relationship between glucose intake and health and longevity, extending the academic discussion to the level of life philosophy. The whole report proceeded from the exploration of new pathways of life to the breakthrough of drug research and development, and finally to the deep thinking of the essence of life, which comprehensively showed the unique charm of biological and chemical cross research. After the report, Academician Lin had a wonderful interaction with the teachers and students。

Shengcai Lin, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, graduated from the Department of Biology of Xiamen University in 1984. He received his doctor's degree from the Southwest Medical Center of the University of Texas in 1991, and later engaged in his post-doctoral research at the University of California, San Diego. Then he has been engaged in research work at the National University of Singapore and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. In 2006, he worked for the School of Life Sciences of Xiamen University full-time. He has been committed to studying the mechanism of metabolic homeostasis regulation, focusing on glucose sensing mechanism and its significance in health and anti-aging for a long time. His research achievement "Revealing the molecular mechanism of autophagy induced by nutrient deficiency" was selected as the "Top 10 Scientific Advances in China" of the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2012; "Glucose perception and its biological significance" was selected as the "Top 10 Advances in China's Life Sciences" in 2017 of the China Association of Science and Technology; "The discovery of metformin targets and the elucidation of its anti-aging mechanism" won the "Top 10 Advances in Life Sciences in China" in 2022. He has won Zou Chenglu Outstanding Research Paper Award of the Society of Biochemistry in 2017 and 2022, Outstanding Achievement Award of the Chinese Society of Cell Biology in 2022, Heliang Heli science and Technology Progress Award in 2023, Outstanding Contribution Award of Xiamen University in 2024, etc.
