On 28 April, a conference was held in Beijing to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) and to commend the nation's model workers and advanced workers. At the meeting, 2,426 people were commended, including 1,670 national model workers and 756 national advanced workers. Prof. Xianhe Bu of Nankai University, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was awarded the honourary title of National Advanced Worker.

Prof. Xianhe Bu Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Distinguished Professor of the Leading Talent Programme of the Ministry of Education, Recipient of the National Outstanding Youth Science Foundation.Based on the frontier of science and technology, academician Bu is brave in exploration and continuous innovation, leading his team engaged in the research of functional inorganic-organic hybrid materials for a long time, and has achieved systematic results in the research of the construction and properties of inorganic solid functional materials. Up to now, he has published hundreds of academic papers and presided over a number of scientific research projects such as innovative research groups, major projects and key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Prof. Bu is dedicated to teaching and educating students, and has trained more than 100 doctoral and master's degree students, including dozens of national talents and professors. He was awarded the Second Prize of National Natural Science and the National May 1 Labor Medal.
