On March 4, the Chinese Chemical Society (CCS) released the list of the Fellows of Chinese Chemical Society in 2024, Prof. Peng Cheng and Prof. Shoufei Zhu from the College of Chemistry in Nankai University have been selected.

Peng Cheng, a professor of College of Chemistry in Nankai University, is a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and a leading national-level high-end talent. He has undertaken multiple research projects funded by the Ministry of Education, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and Tianjin Municipality. Prof. Cheng focuses on the interdisciplinary field of inorganic chemistry and materials chemistry. Guided by functionalities such as optics, electricity, magnetism, and catalysis, he designs, synthesizes, and modulates structures and properties to develop advanced functional materials for applications in biosensing, magnetoelectric coupling, and the conversion and utilization of resource gases. His work has elucidated relevant mechanisms and structure-activity relationships, making systematic and innovative contributions to coordination chemistry and molecular-based materials. He has received awards including the First Young Faculty Award of Ministry of Education, the Second Prize of the National Natural Science Award, and the First Prize of the Tianjin Natural Science Award.

Shoufei Zhu, a professor of College of Chemistry in Nankai University, is a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, a leading talent in the National Ten Thousand Talents Plan, and the principal investigator of National Key Research and Development Program. Prof. Zhu has long been engaged in research on catalytic organic synthesis chemistry. He proposed the concept of "Chiral Proton Shuttles", discovered catalytic boron-hydrogen bond insertion reactions, and developed a variety of open-shell iron catalysts, enabling the efficient synthesis of several important functional molecules. To date, he has published over 140 research papers and  accolades include the First Prize of the National Natural Science Award, the Science Xplorer Prize, and the CCS-BASF Young Investigator Innovation Award.

The CCS established its Fellow system in 2019 to encourage members to scale new heights in science and technology and to advance the development of chemistry in China. The title of CCS Fellow represents the highest academic honor within its membership system, and there are 296 CCS Fellows in total up to now.
