During the 2020 nationwide science and technology week, the State Key Laboratory of Elemento-organic Chemistry (Nankai University) held a series of lectures for popularization of science over the cloud in the special period in order to display scientific and technological achievements, carry forward scientific spirit, popularize scientific knowledge, accelerate coordinated development between scientific innovation and scientific popularization and promote activities of science of popularization beneficial to the public.
This activity was held for three days. Prof. Peng Qian, Prof. Liu Dingbing and Prof. Zhang Xinxing made speeches in the cloud about 'Calculational Chemistry Experiment', 'Analytical Chemistry and Medical Test' and 'How to Implement Telekinesis in 21st Century respectively', which attracted more than 200 audiences form all ages and all orders of society.
In the morning of August 26th, Prof. Qian Peng first introduced the basic situations of the State Key Laboratory of Elemento-organic Chemistry, then
showed the development history of theoretical and computational chemistry and the current advancing chemistry via artificial intelligence. At last he enumerated robot chemist as an example, which evoked the interest of the audiences and caused a heated discussion. In the last section of expectation, Peng quoted the words form academician Xi Zhang : the dimension of chemical research will render unprecedented breath; chemistry is going toward precision, and experiment, theory and calculation are progressively becoming three pillars of the modern chemistry.
In the morning of August 27th, Prof. Dingbin Liu exchanged with everyone about 'the role of chemistry in the early diagnosis of cancer'. His lab focuses on research of discovering tumor marker and developing test methods. During the lecture, taking an example of stomach cancer he introduced the basic procedure of cancer diagnosis and formation and metastasis of cancer, which made everyone get the whole picture of cancer. At last, he showed his team developed the high-powered COVID-19 antibody kit during the COVID-19 outbreak, possessing the great foreground of clinical application.
In the next day morning, Prof. Xinxing Zhang attracted diversified audiences from all orders by a technical sense lecture. He briefly introduced the principles of magnetic and photic suspension as well as their applications in our daily life. Then he showed his group's achievement of vocal suspension technology on the aspects of research content, advanced technology, beneficiaries and public acceptability, which has been utilized for many fields of subjects due to the merits of small and light character, high safety factor.
These series of scientific lectures was host by Prof. Pingping Tang , the vice director of the State Key Laboratory of Elemento-organic Chemistry. He point out, 'compared with previous face-to-face lecture, this scientific activities in the cloud rendered a different communicating way and the screen also couldn't block everyone's strong interest in scientific technology. The State Key Laboratory of Elemento-organic Chemistry will continuously do well in the work of scientific popularization and contribute the effort for the nationwide promotion of science and technology.’
