On November 25th of 2019, Prof. Véronique Gouverneur from the University of Oxford, visited the SKLEOC at Nankai University. In addition to academic communications with faculties and students, he gave a talk entitled “Fluorine Chemistry to Diagnose and Cure Diseases”at the Lecture Hall of Shixian Building at 4:00 PM.
Prior to the talk, Prof. Pingping Tang awarded Prof. Gouverneur the “Nankai University Lectureship on Organic Chemistry” certificate on behalf of the SKLEOC. During the talk, Prof. Gouverneur mainly shared their research about fluorine chemistry to diagnose and cure diseases as well as applying chiral hydrogen bond catalyst for asymmetric nucleophilic fluorination. HeAnd then he summarized his work and made the prospects of this area. The talk was so inspirational that there were no empty seats in the hall. After the talk the audience had in depth discussions concerning details of his awesome research.
Prof. Véronique Gouverneur obtained his Ph.D. from Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium, after which he pursued the postdoc research at the Scripps institute. He began his independent career in 1994 at Université Louis-Pasteur He joined the University of Oxford in 1998 and was made a professor in 2008. Prof. List mainly engaged in developing fluorine compounds especially fro fluorine drugs and probes. And now he has published more than 180 papers and has applied for ten patents. She got numerous awards, such as ACS Award for creative work in Fluorine Chemistry(2015), RSC Tilden Prize(2016), Prelog Medal(2019), RSC Organic Stereochemistry Award(2019) and so on. Prof. Gouverneur now act as the chief editor of Chem. Commun. and he is also the editorial board member of Org. Let， ACS Cent. Sci.，J. Fluorine Chem.，Eur. J. Org. Chem.
